Submissions Criteria

At Haus we publish biography, travel writing (not guide books), history and fiction. We do not publish autobiography or fiction for children or young adults.

We publish a small list of approximately 20-30 new titles a year.

We accept unsolicited submissions direct from authors. When submitting please enclose:

  • A covering letter, introducing yourself.
  • If you have a completed manuscript, then send a book proposal which must include a synopsis, sample chapter headings and the first few chapters of the manuscript. It should also briefly include any relevant information about your writing history.
  • If you have not yet written the manuscript, please send a book proposal (see above) and a sample chapter of your writing. As above, your proposal should briefly include any relevant information about your writing history.
  • Please indicate in your covering letter whether you would like the manuscript returned. If you would, then make sure that you enclose a stamped addressed envelope with the correct postage to cover the cost of its return, otherwise it will be recycled.

Submissions should be made by post only. Please do not send us your work on computer disc.

We cannot take any responsibility for the loss of unsolicited submissions, though we make every effort to look after the material that we receive. We will endeavour to respond to any submission as soon as possible.

Please address your covering letter to:
