Raghu Rai's India is the India of everyday - the life of his rural childhood. His photographs talk about the simple people, the village people, the rituals and routines that make up their rhythm of their days, their spiritual fervour, their dignity and sense of colour and self-adornment as well as the earthy beauty of their humble homes and and the unconciousartistry of their agricultural labour. For the past 18 years Rai has specialized in extensive coverage of India.

Raghu Rai is a member of Magnum, the photo agency for premier photographers. His work has appeared regularly in Time, Life, Geo, Paris Match, National Geographic, The New York Times and The Sunday Times. Awarded the Padma Shri by the Government in India in 1971, Raghu Rai has to his credit a string of national and international awards and has exhibited his work in London, Paris, New York, Hamburg, Hamburg, Tokyo and Prague.
