The Sustainability Project is a new and comprehensive series of twelve books about the challenge of global sustainable development, written by leading international experts.

Each title focuses in depth on one of the critical environmental, economic and social pressure points that must be addressed by individuals and policy makers in the next thirty years. Together, they give an unparalleled view of our responsibilities to the future.

For more than thirty years, scientists from various disciplines have warned that the constant increase in world population and exponential world economic growth are seriously threatening the future of our planet – its ecosystems, economies, and the well-being of our children. As we near the end of the first decade of the 21st century, the problems identified in seemingly disparate spheres - climate change, natural resource use, global health and government - are being brought together with a common goal: sustainable development.

On Monday July 13th we launched the series at the RSA in London. Our distinguished panel of authors and guest speaker presented their books and discussed their respective areas of expertise. Key topics covered included an assessment of the changes in lifestyles, production methods and consumption behaviour that will be required to meet the global sustainability challenge. The audience, of 200 sustainability professionals and interested members of the public raised many interesting and thought-provoking questions in the Q&A session afterwards.
