Haus Publishing was founded in London in 2003 by Barbara Schwepcke.
Inspired by the Monographien of the German publishing house Rowohlt, Haus first published short biographies in the Life&Times series. In recent years the list has broadened substantially to include history, politics, current affairs, and memoir as well biography.
Since 2005, Haus have published travel writing under the Armchair Traveller imprint.
Well-established series now include the Haus Curiosities, short political works published under the guidance of Series Editor Peter Hennessy; The Makers of the Modern World, a 32-volume history of the Paris Peace Conferences after the First World War; and Armchair Traveller’s Histories.
Recent bestsellers include Afghan Napoleon, Sandy Gall’s biography of Ahmad Shah Massoud, and Vernon Bogdanor’s Making the Weather: Six Politicians Who Changed Modern Britain.
